Leadership By Design

Great leaders aren’t born—they’re built, one intentional step at a time.

Leadership by Design is a practical guide for leaders who want to do more than manage tasks—they want to shape people, culture, and the future of their organizations. Drawing on 25 years in healthcare, IT, and clinical informatics, Julie Dearinger-Smith shows how any leader, in any field, can move beyond day-to-day problem solving and intentionally develop team members for long-term success.

Inside, you’ll discover:

  • A clear framework for developing team members at every stage of their career.

  • Practical tools and strategies to help people grow from novice to expert.

  • Real-world insights on mentoring, resilience, and preparing others for promotion.

This book isn’t theory. It’s a roadmap built by a leader who has developed analysts, managers, educators, and clinical professionals into confident, capable contributors. Whether you lead in healthcare, business, education, or technology, this framework removes the guesswork from questions like: Is this person ready for a promotion? How do I shape my team for the future?

And just as important—it helps you explain why someone may not be ready yet, giving you a clear, fair framework to guide development conversations and turn “not yet” into a growth plan rather than a rejection.

Your legacy starts now. With intention, the right framework, and practical tools, you can build leaders who will carry your vision forward—long after your own career chapter closes.

CMS now requires a call-in system in every ED treatment area for every patient.

September 10, 2025

Beginning July 1, 2025, CMS requires that each emergency services treatment area must have a call-in system for every patient (42 CFR § 482.55(c)(iii)). For many hospitals, this creates a compliance gap in hallway beds, overflow rooms, and converted care spaces that don’t have traditional nurse call coverage. See § 482.55 Condition of participation: Emergency services.

Our team at Contingency Health Solutions has developed a nurse-designed call solution built specifically to close this gap:

  • Meets CMS Emergency Services Conditions of Participation

  • Requires no integration with existing systems

  • Minimal IT and inventory lift — fast to deploy, easy to maintain

  • Designed for EDs, overflow spaces, and temporary care areas

This is a simple, safe way to ensure every patient has a voice — and that your hospital is survey-ready.

Give us 20 minutes. That’s all it takes for us to show you an affordable, turnkey solution that keeps your hospital compliant, safe, and survey-ready with minimal IT and inventory lift.
